Welcome Freshmen!
This year the Digital Information class (DI) continued the Project Based Learning model with a focus on our incoming freshmen. Their challenge... create an orientation that captures our new learning commons environment while highlighting valuable library resources. What they came up with left both teachers and students inspired to use the library facility. The entire orientation was presented as a collaborative scavenger hunt that asked students to explore the facility, the new genre based book arrangement, ebooks, and our most beneficial electronic resources. Truly a success for DI and LHS's newest students!
Excellence in Education Grant = Library Transformation!
June brought summer and super exciting news for the LHS LMC, a $5,000 Excellence in Education Grant from the Liberty School District Foundation. The grant was drafted with major input from the Digital Information class who surveyed staff and students, researched the library commons concept, and toured cutting edge library facilities in our community. The support for this project from LHS and our community has been amazing.
Evidence of this grant can be seen and felt in every corner of the LMC. First, we created space for learning zones by setting up a satellite library location - now students have space for quiet individual study, group collaboration, and multiple spaces for whole class learning. We haven't lost any of our resources, we simply moved them to another location where they are available upon request.

Our popular fiction resources are now genre-based, offering materials in a fresh new book store format. Students and staff can browse in fantasy, realistic fiction, action & adventure, mystery & suspense, sci-fi, sports fiction, and relationship & romance. There is something for everyone!
The best part, we're not finished yet. Any day construction of the LHS coffee shop, The Nest, is set to begin in the LMC. Not only will this be a hub for coffee and snacks throughout the day, but it will enhance the learning commons / book store environment we strive to achieve. More study areas will be created in the coffee shop along with Apple TV collaboration stations. Stay tuned for more exciting changes...
